To buy or not? Should I buy a new computer?

Well this is a great question right now.

Windows 7 comes out next month, October 22, 2009, Vista has increased drug usage in millions of homes/businesses (just kidding..?!), and XP is stable and difficult to find.
Let's look at your existing computer. Determine the following important information first. Find the type of processor and amount of memory. If your running XP click on START, go to MY COMPUTER but don't click on it - just right click, then scroll down to properties and click. System properties will appear. Towards the bottom you will see the type of processor and amount of memory. The recommended processor for XP is at least a Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon. The minimum amount of memory you need for XP is 512mg. Now if you have 1 gig of memory you are ahead of the game for the average consumer. If you have a duo core processor..bonus for you!
Vista on the other hand, you need at least a duo core processor and at least 1 gig of memory, not to mention a good video card. (and of course alot of patience!)

So here is the breakdown:

XP = If you have a Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon processor and 512mg of memory, keep it and upgrade/repair if needed. Stay with this computer as long as you can. :)

Vista = If you have a Duo Core processor and 1 gig of memory, get Windows 7 as soon as the first service pack comes out. According to Microsoft the 1 gig of memory will be perfect.

New computer? Well, if you can't fix your XP machine and can wait for Windows 7, do it. If you must have a new computer consider getting XP. Some computer service companies, like Computer Specialists of America, can still get laptops and desktops with Windows XP!

When Windows 7 has been around for awhile and at least the first service pack comes out...then we shall see!
